Beowulf

Beowulf begins during a celebration at Herot, the reception hall of the Danish king Hrothgar. Outside the palace creeps an evil creature that jeopardizes the safety of the people inside. The people inside the hall thrive happily intil the creature outside is stirred. As the descendant of Cain, this monsterous creature, Grendel lives in a swamp outside the hall. Cain was doomed by God for the murder of Abel. The punishment for this crime resulted in Cain spawning demons, goblins, and other spirits. At nightfall, Grendel sneaks to Herot, curious of what the warriors would do after their drinking. Quietly, Grendel snatches thirty of Hyrothgar's men and mutulates their bodies. He carries them back to his dwelling with the blood dragging behind him. Hyrothgar sits joyless the next day, for he has thirty men unaccounted for. Beowulf approaches Herot and meets Hyrothgar demanding information on why Beowulf is there. Beowulf tells Hyrothgar who he is and who his family is. He tells them that he has come to protect their land. Beowulf is welcomed. Beowulf gathers men and travels to Grendels lair.

Grendel comes to Herot and kills 30 men by eating them and drinking their blood. Beowulf pretends to be asleep and when Grendel comes to eat him, Beowulf jumps to his feet and fights Grendel. Beowulf is unarmed so he grabs Grendel’s arm and claw and rips it all off. Grendel runs off to his lonely death, while Beowulf hangs Grendel’s arm on the wall to show that Grendel is no longer harm to anyone.

As Beowulf gets called to fight the she-wolf (Gendel’s mother), he goes to the bottom to the lake where she lives. There is a long struggle of the She-Wolf clawing at Beowulf’s ring-woven mail and she can’t harm him. Also, Beowulf’s sword can’t slice her evil skin, and the next thing happens, Beowulf is on the floor with the She-Wolf on his back. Suddenly Beowulf gets on his feet, finds a heavy giants sword and slice through her head. Beowulf comes back with her head to show that she is dead






Beowulf is getting old and he gets asked to fight once again. There is a dragon that needs to go. So, Beowulf goes up there to fight him and faces the dragon’s hot flames. Next, Beowulf’s sword melts in the flames of the dragon. Beowulf doesn’t have a chance and burns. Everyone runs in fear except for Wiglaf. Wiglaf goes and help Beowulf, so both Beowulf and Wiglaf kill the dragon.
